How to Apply to Civilian Military Jobs

Are you an Experienced Professional?
Are you highly qualified?
Are you entry level or a student?

The Hiring Process is Designed to Discover Your Talents

The application process for federal employment can be more time consuming than applying for work in the private sector. Don’t let that discourage you from discovering a career with an inspiring mission, supportive coworkers, and leading-edge technologies at SMC. We’ve put together a step-by-step overview of what you can expect in this process.

A Couple of Things to Keep in Mind:

  • The Featured Positions page lists opportunities available at SMC because of immediate and high demand for certain types of professionals. Pay particular attention to the requirements you must have to be considered highly qualified. If you are a highly qualified candidate for one of the positions listed, please visit the Featured Positions page to view all the opportunities available and to apply directly to SMC for immediate consideration.
  • The SMC positions listed on the Experienced Professionals page are listed on USAJobs as Air Force Personnel Center-Department of the Air Force, rather than Air Force Space and Missile Systems Center (SMC). SMC is a part of AFMC; do not be alarmed when you see their name on the job description. The links provided on our Careers page will take you directly to positions available with SMC. Please apply through the links provided on USAjobs.
  • When you are logged into USAJOBS.gov – you have the option to create a saved search. Saved searches help you look for jobs in your area of interest. The saved search will automatically search for jobs based on your search criteria, and then email you when there are new jobs entered into the database that meet your specifications. The USAJobs saved search creation, deletion, editing and viewing functions are all located within My Account.

To create a saved search, simply follow these instructions:

    1. Click the My Account tab at the top of the page and log-in to your account. If you need to create a new account, click 'Create your account now', enter your information, and click 'Submit'.
    2. Once you are logged in, click the link to 'Create a new saved search'. You can create up to 5 saved searches.
    3. Specify the search criteria and then click 'Save Search'.

Note: When asked to create a name for the saved search, you may enter a name of your choice that is related to the job such as: Administrative, program analyst, management analyst.

You can also create a saved search by running a job search and selecting the “Save this Search and email me jobs” link at the top of the job search results page.
